Five additional fatalities were recorded on Monday in Assam, a northeastern state plagued by flooding. Over 625,000 individuals remain impacted by floods across ten districts in the state, as detailed in an official bulletin. The Assam State Disaster Management Authority's daily report indicated three casualties in Sonai, Cachar district, and one fatality in Silchar revenue circle due to flooding.

This brings the total death toll from floods, landslides, and storms this year to 23. The report highlighted that over 625,000 individuals were affected by flooding in Cachar, Dhemaji, Dibrugarh, Dima Hasao, Hailakandi, Hojai, West Karbi Anglong, Karimganj, Morigaon, and Nagaon districts.

Nagaon emerged as the most severely impacted district, with over 364,000 affected individuals, followed by Cachar with more than 136,000 and Hojai with over 90,000 people affected. Notably, as of Sunday, approximately 535,000 people were impacted across the ten districts. The administration is presently operating 191 camps across six districts, accommodating 36,741 individuals.

Moreover, 108 relief distribution centers are actively providing aid. The Disaster Management Authority reported that 577 villages are currently submerged, with 6,023.18 hectares of crop area damaged. Floodwaters have also inflicted damage on embankments, roads, bridges, and other critical infrastructure in Cachar, Nagaon, Dibrugarh, Dima Hasao, West Karbi Anglong, and Karimganj. Presently, the Kopili and Kushiyara rivers are flowing above the danger level at multiple locations.
