Protests have erupted across the country after the rape of a woman doctor in Kolkata. The issue of safety of women doctors and nurses working in the hospital has come to the fore. At a time when many are expressing concern for the safety of health workers, there has been an attempt to rape a nurse at a private hospital in Samastipur, Bihar. However, the victim nurse slit the genitals of the accused doctor with a blade and fled from the spot.
The incident took place at RBS Health Care Centre in Bihar's Samastipur district. (Wednesday). On September 11, the nurse was on her way home from work when the hospital's administrator, Dr Sanjay Kumar, and two of his colleagues caught hold of her and tried to force themselves on her. All the three accused were drunk at the time of the incident.
According to the police, Dr. Sanjay Kumar and others caught hold of the nurse, she stabbed the doctor's private parts with a blade and somehow escaped from there. Superintendent of Police Sanjay Kumar said policemen rushed to the spot after receiving information about the incident. After checking whether the nurse was safe, the three accused were arrested.
Sanjay Kumar Pandey further said, "The accused locked the doors of the hospital from inside before sexually assaulting the nurse. The CCTV cameras were switched off. But still the courage and fortitude with which the nurse managed to get out of this situation is worthy of praise. The police have seized liquor bottles and knives from the spot.
