The BJP government newly elected in Odisha will now be sworn in on June 12, instead of the initially planned date of June 10. This change was confirmed by party leaders Jatin Mohanty and Vijaypal Singh Tomar. The decision to reschedule the swearing-in ceremony was made due to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's busy schedule. The legislature party meeting has been rescheduled to June 11. The BJP secured a majority by winning 78 out of 147 seats in the assembly.
The party campaigned under the leadership of Modi without announcing a Chief Minister candidate. Preparations are being made for the swearing-in ceremony at Janata Maidan in Bhubaneswar. Rajnath Singh and Bhupendra Yadav have been appointed as central observers for the election of the legislature party leader in Odisha.
Several names, including Suresh Pujari, Manmohan Samal, Pratap Chandra Sarangi, Baijayant Panda, Girish Chandra Murmu, Sambit Patra, Jayanarayan Mishra, and Aparajita Sarangi, are being considered for the post of Chief Minister in Odisha. Dharmendra Pradhan, initially a frontrunner, has seen reduced chances following his appointment as a minister in the Modi government.
