Marriage proposals often fail due to various reasons, such as compatibility issues between the couple or family interference. Instances of marriages ending prematurely are not uncommon, from factors like dowry demands to unresolved past relationships. In a peculiar incident from Sonwarpet, Karnataka, a groom refused to marry a bride because her family did not offer sweets to him and his relatives. The woman, from Hanagallu village in Arakalgud Taluk, Hassan, was intended to marry the groom from Tumkur city.

Despite discussions and setting a wedding date of May 5th, complications arose. The day before the wedding, the groom's family requested dowry, including gold and a property in Bangalore, which the bride's family could not afford. Tensions increased when the groom's family complained about not receiving sweets during the wedding festivities.

The situation escalated to a point where both families went to the police station to resolve the dispute. Allegedly, the groom removed his wedding ring, prompting the bride to call off the wedding, expressing her frustration. This incident is not isolated, as seen in a previous case in Telangana where a wedding was canceled due to the absence of mutton bone marrow in the non-vegetarian menu, leading to a confrontation post-engagement ceremony.
