The CBI has assumed control of the investigation into the unexplained death of a Manipuri woman at her residence 11 years ago, following a directive from the Supreme Court. The agency has reinitiated a Delhi Police FIR against unknown individuals. The woman, aged 25 at the time, resided in a rented dwelling in Chirag Delhi. Her lifeless body, bearing a disfigured face and a fractured nose, was discovered in May 2013.
Bloodstains were detected on the floor and a bedsheet soaked in blood was found. Initially deemed a suicide, the case was later upgraded to include charges of murder. Medical professionals from and two other hospitals examined the remains but could not determine the cause of death.
Subsequently, the victim's relatives sought a CBI investigation from the Delhi High Court, which was denied. They then appealed to the Supreme Court, resulting in a CBI investigation being ordered on March 22.
