Chandrapur: Amid fresh incidents of firing in the city as well as in Ballarpur and Rajura, notorious gangster Sheikh Haji Sheikh Sarwar was shot at by unidentified assailants at Shahi Darbar, a biryani centre and hotel, in the city's Binba Gate area at around 4 pm today. He was shot dead after the attack. He was rushed to the district hospital but doctors declared him brought dead. The incident has caused a stir in Chandrapur district. Concerns are being raised as the city is moving towards Mirzapur city.
Crime has increased in the area in recent weeks. Smuggling of coal, sand, online cricket betting, gutkha, tobacco and liquor have added to the crime. Unidentified assailants hurled a petrol bomb at the shop of Malu, a cloth seller in Ballarpur town. MNS leader Aman Andhewar was also attacked. A 28-year-old man, identified as Shivjyot Singh Deval, was shot dead by two bike-borne assailants in front of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Complex on Asifabad road in Rajura town.

Haji Sheikh was rushed to the district general hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. A huge gathering of Haji Sheikh's supporters led to tension in the area. Heavy police force has been deployed at the hospital.
