Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has been granted bail by the Delhi High Court in connection with the medicines-on-voyage case. A bench of judges Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Datta is likely to hear the matter. "Kejriwal had earlier told the Supreme Court that his" illegal arrest" in the case was an" unknown attack" on popular principles grounded on" free and fair choices" and "federalism." Responding to an affidavit filed by the Enforcement Directorate(ED) on his plea challenging his arrest in the case,
Kejriwal said the manner and timing of his arrest before the Lok Sabha pates shows the "arbitrary" functioning of the ED. He said he was arrested while the election law of conduct was in force. "Kejriwal claimed it was an" open case" how the Centre misused the ED and its wide-ranging powers under the Prevention of plutocrat Laundering Act(PMLA) to crush the Aam Aadmi Party(AAP) and its leaders.
"Kejriwal was arrested by the ED on March 21. presently, he's lodged in Tihar jail. The top court had on April 15 issued notice to the ED and sought its response on Kejriwal's plea. The high court said the ED was left with" little option "after repeated process and turndown to join the inquiry. The case pertains to contended corruption and fiscal bungling in the expression and perpetration of the Delhi government's excise policy for 2021-2022, which was latterly scrapped.
