Malappuram : police's Cyber Crime unit in Kerala apprehended a Karnataka native allegedly engaged in online trading. They seized over 40,000 SIM cards and 180 mobile phones from him. The accused, Abdul Roshan (46yrs) from Koppa, Karnataka, reportedly extorted Rs.1.08 crore from a Malappuram Vengara resident through an online trading scam. A case was filed at Vengara Police Station under sections 420 IPC and 66 (D) of the IT Act for cheating and extorting money without fulfilling promises.
Roshan was residing in a rented house in Madikeri, Kotak district, and was supplying SIM cards to fraudulent groups. The victim from Vengara suffered financial losses after being misled through a share market link on Facebook, leading to deposits in various accounts. Abdul Roshan was arrested by the Special Cyber Crime Squad, led by Cyber Inspector IC Chitharanjan and Malappuram Police Chief S.Sasidharan, with the support of Karnataka police.
The operation resulted in the recovery of 40,000 SIM cards from different mobile companies and over 180 mobile phones from Roshan's possession.
