Between Thane and Mulund railway stations, Central Railway experienced disruptions in traffic on Monday evening due to a collapsed overhead wire pole on the slow track. Consequently, traffic from the slow route was redirected to the fast route, impacting the flow of traffic from Mumbai towards Thane.
Trains were delayed by approximately half an hour, leading to crowded railway stations and passenger dissatisfaction. The signal system failure in the morning and train service disruption in the evening due to rain further exacerbated passenger frustration. In response to the railway service disruptions, some passengers opted for road travel, only to encounter heavy traffic congestion.
The collapse of the overhead wire pole near the Kopri railway bridge between Thane and Mulund railway stations around 4:00 pm completely blocked traffic on the slow lane, disrupting Central Railway's transport system. Despite efforts to rectify the issue, the fault was not resolved by 6:00 pm. Central Railway Administration initiated the movement of all trains from the slow route to the fast route, resulting in delays of approximately thirty minutes for both slow and fast trains.
The disruptions caused a surge in passenger numbers at Thane and surrounding stations. The inclement weather prompted many individuals to leave work early, contributing to the overcrowding on trains due to the railway service disruptions. This situation adversely affected employees, especially those in the women's class. With railway traffic disturbed, some commuters turned to road travel, only to encounter traffic jams on major highways and internal roads. Both road and railway networks experienced blockages.
