External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar is scheduled to visit Qatar on June 30, as announced by the Ministry of External Affairs. During the visit, Jaishankar will meet with Qatar's Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani.
The Ministry of External Affairs highlighted the longstanding and amicable relations between India and Qatar, characterized by frequent high-level visits. Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Qatar on February 14-15, 2024, included discussions with Qatar's Amir H.H. Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
Jaishankar's upcoming visit to Qatar aims to facilitate a comprehensive review of various aspects of bilateral relations encompassing political, trade, investment, energy, security, cultural, people-to-people connections, as well as regional and international issues of mutual concern. In early June, the inaugural meeting of the Joint Task Force on Investment (JTFI) between India and Qatar took place in New Delhi.
The meeting aimed to enhance investment cooperation between the two nations and was co-chaired by Ajay Seth, Secretary of the Department of Economic Affairs under the Ministry of Finance, and Mohamed bin Hassen Al-Malki, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Qatar.
The Ministry of Finance confirmed that the joint task force on investment reaffirmed both countries' commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and harnessing collective potential for accelerated growth, investment opportunities, and collaborative efforts across various sectors such as infrastructure, energy, technology, and innovation.
Emphasizing the robust economic ties between India and Qatar, underpinned by shared values, common goals, and a joint vision for inclusive development, the leaders highlighted the significance of their economic relationship. Previously, Prime Minister Narendra Modi engaged with Qatar's Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani during the COP28 summit in Dubai, focusing on bilateral partnerships and the welfare of the Indian community in Qatar.
