Voting for the sixth phase of the Lok Sabha elections in New Delhi will take place on Saturday. Seven constituencies in the capital will see voters exercising their rights. In 2019, all three parties competed against each other. This time, the Congress and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) are in the lead in Delhi, setting the stage for a direct battle against the BJP.
A surprising outcome is anticipated at the national level if the opposition manages to erode the BJP's 50 percent vote share. Therefore, the focus is on whether Delhi residents will vote for the BJP or non-BJP parties. In the 2019 elections, the BJP secured an average of 56 percent of the votes, marking an 11 percent increase from 2014. The Congress received approximately 22 percent of the votes, showing a seven and a half percent rise from 2014.
Meanwhile, AAP saw a decline of 15 percent in votes, garnering 18 percent in 2019. If AAP closes this vote gap in the upcoming election, the 'India' alliance could potentially overcome the BJP. Consequently, the future election results in Delhi hinge on the number of votes AAP secures. The alliance between Congress and AAP is seen as advantageous for Congress. However, the percentage of AAP's votes will also rely on how much AAP can capitalize on a weakened Congress.
