On Thursday, Five Flamingos were found dead and seven injured near DPS lake in Navi Mumbai. Flamingos come then to stay because of the cornucopia of food and wetland which is essential for flamingos. Meanwhile, the number of flamingos killed in the area in a week has reached eight.

The dead flamingos were spotted by locals who went for a walk near DPS lake on Thursday morning. Locals informed the forest department, which rushed to the spot and transferred the carcass to the Mumbai Veterinary College for posthumous. Meanwhile Nat Connect Foundation, which works for the environment, has written a letter to the Chief Minister requesting him to investigate the incident and take applicable way to protect the biodiversity of Navi Mumbai.

Last Friday, 3 flamingos were found dead and one injured. Environmentalists in Navi Mumbai have asked the Bombay Natural History Society and the Kandhalvan Cell to probe the matter. Meanwhile, principal Conservator of Forests VS Rama Rao said a platoon has been transferred to the spot to study the incident and take farther action.

Rekha Sankhla of the Save Flamingos and Magrooves Forum has requested the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation and CID co to renew the inflow of water in the DPS lake. Birders have prognosticated that the birds may be getting detracted due to lack of food in the DPS Flamingo Lake.
