Bari, Italy : The G-7 nations declared their dedication to advancing robust infrastructure projects such as connectivity corridors linking India, West Asia, and Europe during the summit held in Apulia in southern Italy. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, specially invited by Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, was in attendance.
The second day of the conference featured talks on the 'Connectivity Corridor' initiative, which Prime Minister Modi first introduced at the 'G20' Summit in New Delhi the previous year. The G-7 countries pledged to support complementary endeavors aimed at fostering major undertakings that enhance global infrastructure and investment.
The India-West Asia-Europe Corridor (IMEC) initiative, also known as the 'IMEC' Corridor, focuses on cooperation in communication and infrastructure to facilitate trade. The project aims to establish rail and port connections between West Asia and Europe, involving key countries such as India, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, the European Union, France, Italy, Germany, and the United States.
Viewed as a response to China's 'Belt and Road Initiative' and 'China-Pakistan Economic Corridor', the 'IMEC' Corridor is a strategic endeavor to bolster regional connectivity and trade ties. During the G-7 summit in Italy, Prime Minister Narendra Modi engaged in discussions with US President Joe Biden on various matters.
