Former JNU student Sharjeel Imam was arrested four years ago on charges of sedition. Now Delhi High Court has granted bail to Sharjeel Imam. Sharjeel Imam has been accused of making inflammatory speech. A bench of Justice Suresh Kumar Kait and Justice Manoj Jain granted the bail. A sedition case was filed against Sharjeel Imam for making provocative speeches in Delhi's Jamia area and Aligarh Muslim University. Bail has been granted in this case.
Even though the Delhi High Court has granted bail to Sharjeel Imam, Sharjeel Imam will remain in jail. Because Sharjeel Imam is an accused in the 2020 Delhi riots conspiracy case. Meanwhile, the trial court refused to grant bail to Sharjeel Imam. However, he served more than half of the maximum sentence if convicted. Accordingly, after the trial court denied bail, a petition was filed in the High Court.
