New Delhi : India and Bangladesh revealed a fresh train connection between Rajshahi and Kolkata, as well as a new bus route between Chittagong and Kolkata, on Saturday. The announcement was made after Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bangladesh counterpart Sheikh Hasina had a bilateral meeting in New Delhi.
Hasina landed here last Friday, becoming the inaugural foreign leader to pay an official visit to India after Modi's third consecutive term as prime minister. After the discussions, both parties also revealed a series of new actions to enhance connectivity and trade.
News was released stating that a passenger train connecting Kolkata and Rajshahi will start operating shortly. Next month, a trial run will also start for a goods train on Bangladesh Railways that will travel from Gede-Darshana to Haldibari-Chilahati cross-border interchange point. A fresh bus route connecting Kolkata and Chittagong will also be introduced.
India will offer funding to construct an inland container terminal in Sirajganj, Bangladesh. Modi stated that the relationship between the two countries is built on interaction between individuals and announced that India will introduce an e-medical visa service for Bangladeshi citizens seeking medical care in India.
India has also made the decision to establish a new deputy high commission in Rangpur. Both parties have agreed and signed on 10 deals to strengthen their relationship in various important sectors like technology, oceans, transportation, space, environment, healthcare.
