Keeping in mind the growing demand for batteries and chips for solar energy and electric vehicles in the country, the central government is preparing to buy mineral blocks of lithium and rare earth accoutrements from African and Latin American countries. At present, India is dependent on China for force of raw accoutrements needed for battery and chip manufacturing.

Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Mines Veena Kumari Darmal said on Tuesday that the government is in direct addresses with the governments of African and Latin American countries for crucial mineral blocks. Speaking at the India Energy Storage Week( IESW) 2024, organised by the India Energy Storage Alliance( IESA), Darmal said," We're in conversations with several resource-rich countries in Africa as well as Latin America to acquire mineral blocks on G2G base or precedence base from the government.
