Air Marshal Amar Preet Singh, who has more than 5,000 hours of flying experience, will be the next Chief of the Indian Air Force after Air Chief Marshal Vivek Ram Chaudhari. Singh, who is currently serving as the Vice Chief of the Air Staff, will take charge of the force on September 30 afternoon, the Defence Ministry said.
Air Chief Marshal Chaudhari retires from service on September 30. . During nearly 40 years of long and distinguished service, he has served in various Command, Staff, Instructional and Overseas appointments.
More than 5,000 hours of flight time
Amar Preet Singh is an alumnus of the National Defence Academy, Defence Services Staff College and National Defence College and is a qualified flying instructor and an experimental test pilot. He has more than 5,000 hours of flying experience on a variety of fixed and rotary-wing aircraft.
He was also the Project Director (Flight Test) at the National Flight Test Centre and was tasked with the flight test of the Light Combat Aircraft Tejas.
Air Marshal Singh has been appointed as Air Defence Commander, South Western Air Command and Senior Air Staff Officer, Eastern Air Command. Before taking over as Vice Chief of the Air Staff, he was the Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Central Air Command.
