Akshay Shinde is an accused in the Badlapur school sexual assault case. The incident took place when he was being taken for questioning by a team of the Thane Crime Branch. During this time, Akshay snatched a gun from the police and fired in their direction. The police also fired shots in return. The accused, identified as Akshay Shinde, was killed in the firing. A police sub-inspector was also injured.

The team of Thane Crime Branch had arrested Akshay from Taloja Jail today. While he was being taken to the spot for an inspection in the afternoon, when he reached Mumbra Outer Ring Road, Akshay snatched a gun from near the police and fired at the police. In retaliation, the police also fired at him. He was injured in the police firing. He was subsequently taken to hospital. However, doctors declared him dead. The entire incident took place inside a police van.

A few days ago, two minor girls were allegedly raped in a school in Badlapur. Following the incident, the locals staged a protest on the railway tracks. The protest led to tension. Akshay was later arrested. The state government had formed an SIT to probe the case. The SIT had investigated the case and filed a chargesheet in the court. Based on a complaint filed by his second wife, the police had registered a case of unnatural sex against him.

He was arrested by the Crime Branch of the Thane police. On Monday evening, when the police were taking him for questioning from Taloja jail, he snatched the gun of a police officer and tried to shoot at the police. Akshay was shot dead by the police in self-defence.

Meanwhile, the mother of the accused Akshay Shinde responded to TV9 news channel after the incident. "My son will not do anything like this (about the Badlapur incident), my son was very poor, he did not have this dirty habit, my son does not burst crackers, he was afraid of cars," she said.
