In a shocking incident, an Army jawan was allegedly beaten up and his wife was sexually harassed by a policeman in Odisha's Ganjam district. The incident took place on September 14 at a police station in Bhubaneswar. Five policemen, including two women constables, have been suspended in connection with the incident.

Harassment of women by police
According to India Today, the victim runs a small restaurant in Bhubaneswar. A few days ago, she got married to an army officer. On September 14, she was on her way home with her would-be husband after closing the restaurant at around 1 pm. At that time, some young men raped her. She immediately rushed to the police station and lodged a complaint.

The police refused to register the complaint. Her husband was arrested and a case was registered against him. When the victim protested, he abused her. Some policemen were also there. They tied her hands with the woman's jacket and her legs with the scarf of another policewoman. A police officer then pulled out the woman's underwear and kicked her in the chest

Speaking to the media about the incident
The woman was admitted to the AIIMS in Bhubaneswar after her condition deteriorated. The woman spoke to the media after being discharged from the hospital. She then narrated the incident to him. Thereafter, she had lodged complaint with the police. The woman also said that she would approach the court seeking quashing of the case against her.

Following the woman's complaint, the state government took action and suspended five people, including the police inspector of the police station. These include two women.
