Leaders of the Hindu community in Bangladesh are planning to form a political party. There is also a call for political representation to protect the rights of Hindus and ensure their safety. Hindu leaders of the Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council (BHBCOP) and other groups have proposed this political party; they are also discussing the possibility of demanding a party or parliamentary seats.

Three views are currently being discussed in detail by the Hindu community in Bangladesh. The first is to revert to the separate electorate system from 1954; the second is to form a separate political party for Hindus; and the third is to reserve seats in Parliament for minorities, "Kajal Debnath, a presidium member of BHBCOP, told PTI. Awami League leader Sheikh Hasina resigned from the post of Prime Minister on August 5 following the student protests. The Hindu community was targeted in the violence that followed.

Discussion and exchange of views on the formation of political parties is our priority. Hindu community leader Ranjan Karmakar said that while nothing has been finalised yet, the outcome of the talks will be known in the coming days. Proposed political parties can play an important role for changes. The minorities here will be represented and their problems will be solved, "he said.
