Bhayandar: 3000 people participated in the cleaning of Uttan's beach, 37 tons of garbage collected

BHYANDER: On the occasion of World Beach Cleanup Day, Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC) conducted a mega cleanliness drive at Uttan beach on Saturday. About 3 thousand people participated in the event. A total of 37 tonnes of waste was collected.

In order to promote cleanliness in Mira Bhayandar city, the Municipal Corporation organized a campaign on Saturday on the occasion of World Beach Cleanliness Day at Velankanni and Bhatebandar beaches of Uttan. More than 3,000 people, including 11 social organizations, 10 colleges and 9 schools, as well as officials of the Municipal Corporation, participated in the campaign. As a result, a total of 37 tonnes of waste, 15 tonnes from Velankanni beach and 22.5 tonnes from Bhatebandar (Uttan) beach, was collected till afternoon.

Sanjay Katkar, Commissioner, Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation, said that this' Mega Beach Cleanup 'initiative has been organized to create awareness about cleanliness among the citizens of Mira Bhayandar city, to make the cities and beaches free of plastic waste. Additional Deputy Commissioner Aniket Manorkar was also present on the occasion. Deputy Commissioner Sanjay Donde and officials of Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation and Safai Karmacharis were present in large numbers. Miss Earth Gauri Ghotankar and noted singer Kunal Pandit were also present on the occasion.
