Former Kolkata College Principal, Inspector Arrested for Evidence Tampering in Rape Case

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested former principal of Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College, Sandip Ghosh, and inspector Abhijit Mondal in connection with the rape and murder of a student. Both were charged with perjury and tampering with evidence. The CBI has so far arrested three persons in the case.

According to The Indian Express, former principal Sandip Ghosh was detained by the CBI on September 2 on charges of corruption in the college. They are at present in jail. He has also been arrested on charges of rape and murder. Police inspector Abhijit Mondal of the concerned police station was called by the police for questioning on Saturday. According to CBI sources, police inspector Abhijit Mondal of Talal police station was called for questioning on Saturday. In the preliminary investigation, it was found that he tampered with the evidence and delayed the registration of the case. A former principal of the college was also questioned in connection with the case.

Both of them were arrested late last night. He was also taken to hospital for medical examination. He will be produced before a special court in Sealdah today. In fact, after the rape and murder of the doctor on August 9, there is anger across the country. The doctors are demanding death penalty for the accused. The protesters also demanded the resignation of Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal.
