Gondia: The death of T-9 tiger in a fight between two tigers in the Gabha area of Navegaon-Nagzira Tiger Reserve came to light in the early hours of September 22 in the Mangezari Road Nagdev Pahari area of Nagzira-1 Cell No. 96.

The number of wild animals has increased after the forest department and wildlife department curbed the incidents of poaching. In the last 10 years, the number of tigers in Gondia and Bhandara districts has increased. Gondia-Bhandara district is witnessing an increase in tiger population due to the conducive environment in the territorial and wildlife forests for tiger habitat. Notably, the forest in Gondia-Bhandara district is the link to the tiger reserves in central India. In which there is a corridor from Nagzira to Pench, Nagzira Navegaon-Tadoba, Nagzira-Umred, Pavani, Karhandla Sanctuary. Therefore, while there is a lot of wildlife around the forest, this is also the path of the tiger.

As per the last census in 2022, the Navegaon-Nagzira Tiger Reserve is estimated to have around 22 tigers, including 3 male and 7 female tigresses, two tigers of two-and-a-half to three-year-old age and the cubs. The number of tigers in Chandrapur district has increased after three tigresses were released in Navegaon Nagzira. Meanwhile, today's incident shows that these tigers have started a fight for their survival. Today, on Sunday, six forest areas under Nagzira Sanctuary, namely, Nagzira Complex, Destined Area Nagzira 1, Cell No. Bitrakshak J. in the Nagdev Pahadi area of Mangezari Road, 96. The centre, Nagzira 1, was on a routine patrol with its team when a male tiger, estimated to be around 9-10 years of age, was found dead at around 10 am.

On receiving the news of the incident, Deputy Conservator of Forest and Range Director of Navegaon Nagzira Tiger Reserve Jayarame Gowda R, Deputy Director of Navegaon Nagzira Tiger Reserve, Sakoli, Rahul Gavai, Assistant Conservator of Forest, (Additional. Forest Range Officer V.M. Bhosale reached the spot. As per the standard operating procedure of the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA), a joint committee inspected the spot and the dead tiger. On this occasion, Honorary Wildlife Warden and representative Chief Wildlife Warden Sawan Bahekar, NTCA representative Rupesh Nimbarte, NGO representative Chhatrapal Chaudhary, Dr. Shital Wankhede, Dr. Saurabh, Dy. Sharma, Dr S.K. Veterinary and animal husbandry officials were present. Further investigation is being carried out under the guidance of Rahul Gawai, Deputy Director, Navegaon Nagzira Tiger Reserve. The post-mortem examination...
The post-mortem of the dead tiger was conducted in the presence of veterinary officers and members of the committee and the viscera samples of the tiger have been collected for post-mortem examination.

After the post-mortem...
According to the preliminary assessment of the veterinary officer, the deceased tiger T-9 was seriously injured in a fight with another tiger and died. All the parts of the tiger were found intact and the carcass was cremated after post-mortem.
