Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has been accused of land grabbing by the Mysore Urban Development Authority (MUDA). Siddaramaiah has denied the allegations. Opposition parties have accused Chief Minister Siddaramaiah of favouring his wife in the case. The opposition has lashed out against the government over the issue.
The Karnataka Governor had given his consent to prosecute Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in the MUDA case. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has challenged the governor's decision in the high court. The case is pending in the Karnataka High Court. The court heard the arguments from both sides. The Karnataka High Court on Tuesday (September 24) dismissed Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's petition challenging the Governor's decision. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's problems are likely to be compounded.
The Karnataka High Court made the observation while hearing a petition filed by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. "The Governor can take his own decision. They can order an investigation. The Governor has the power to grant sanction to register an offence on the basis of personal right. The Karnataka High Court has dismissed the petition filed by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
What exactly is the case?
In 2021, three acres of land was acquired in a village called Kesar for the development of MUDA. Later, the lands in Vijayanagar in Mysore were re-acquired. Now in this case the petitioners have claimed that the market value of the land which was acquired was higher. But we were paid very little. Siddaramaiah's name has cropped up in the case. Last month, Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot had approved the prosecution of Siddaramaiah in the Mysore Urban Development Authority (MUDA) case. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is in a dilemma.
