New Delhi – In a significant move towards inclusivity, leading professional networking platform LinkedIn announced on Thursday the addition of ten new language options, among which are four prominent Indian regional languages: Bengali, Marathi, Telugu, and Punjabi. This expansion brings LinkedIn's total language support to five Indian languages, including Hindi.
In a statement, LinkedIn’s Chief Product Officer, Tomer Cohen, expressed enthusiasm about the platform's new capabilities. LinkedIn’s member base in India has now surpassed a remarkable 135 million, with engagement rates increasing by 20 percent year-over-year, solidifying India's position as LinkedIn’s second-largest and fastest-growing market. The new language additions aim to dismantle language barriers on the platform, empowering a broader audience to create deeper professional identities and engage more meaningfully with their networks.
In line with its growth strategy, LinkedIn recently appointed Kumaresh Pattabiraman as the new Country Manager and Product Head in India. “LinkedIn has evolved from being just a jobs platform to becoming a dynamic global community where professionals connect for jobs, learning, networking, and knowledge sharing,” Pattabiraman remarked. India is rapidly emerging as a key player in the global AI landscape, ranking among the top five countries for the fastest-growing AI talent.
LinkedIn members in India are reported to utilize AI skills three times more frequently than the global average. Additionally, LinkedIn has recently launched a new video experience tailored specifically for the Indian market, as uploads in the country have surged by 60 percent year-on-year. This latest initiative signals LinkedIn’s commitment to tapping into one of the fastest-growing markets in the world. As LinkedIn continues to innovate and expand its offerings, the addition of regional languages is set to enhance user experience and foster a more inclusive environment for professionals in India and beyond.
