Recently, Shivashankarappa, a 92-year-old sitting MLA from Davangere South, made an unpleasant comment about BJP candidate from Davanagere Gayathri Siddeshwar, saying, "They (women) know only to cook in the kitchen". This remark sparked instant outrage and a prompt rebuke from badminton champion and Olympic medallist Saina Nehwal.

In a sharp response, Nehwal took to Twitter to criticize Shivashankarappa's hostile mentality towards women and his efforts to belittle their capabilities. She expressed her disappointment and demanded respect for women.

As a prominent public figure, Nehwal's condemnation of Shivashankarappa's insensitive comment has found widespread support on social media. This incident also raises concerns about the ongoing battle for gender equality and the need for a more sensitive and progressive approach to gender issues in India.
