Vasai: The new Civil Registration Portal (CRS), which was launched from July to register births and deaths, has been hit by technical glitches. Due to this, the birth and death records of thousands of citizens of the city have been pending for the last 3 months. Complaints have been lodged with the Central and State governments on this issue.
Birth and death certificates are issued to citizens by municipal corporations. From 2026, these documents will be issued through the Central Government's portal called CRS (Civil Registration Software). So far there was no problem. But since the first day, there have been technical difficulties in this portal. This portal is running very slowly and it takes one hour to make one entry. Even after entering, the OTP does not come on time. At this point, the portal closes. The calendar itself does not open to search for old records.
Complaints to the state and central government
The civic body is not getting any help from the Centre and the state to tackle the problem, officials said. Due to the fault in the CRS portal, citizens are not getting birth and death certificates. Deputy Commissioner (IT) Sameer Bhumkar said the civic body has been constantly pursuing complaints with the state and central governments in this regard. "We are trying to rectify the problem at the earliest," he said.
