Chhattisgarh – A shocking and tragic incident unfolded in a village within Sukma district on Sunday, October 15, when a brutal act of violence led to the deaths of three couples and one additional woman, all allegedly killed on suspicions of witchcraft. The victims have been identified as Mausam Kanna (34) and his wife Mausam Biri, Mausam Bucha (34) and his wife Mausam Arju, along with Kaka Lachhi (43). According to police reports, the murders occurred within the jurisdiction of the Konta police station.

A senior police officer confirmed that initial investigations revealed the heinous acts stemmed from baseless allegations of witchcraft directed towards the victims. In the wake of the violence, authorities quickly moved to apprehend those responsible. Five individuals were arrested: Suvagam Rajesh (21), Suvagam Hidma, Karam Satyam (35), Kunjam Mukesh (28), and Podiyam Enka. The police are continuing their investigation to uncover further details surrounding this deeply distressing event.

This incident is part of a disturbing trend in the region, as it follows another tragic case in Balodabazar-Bhatpara district, where four members of a family, including an 11-month-old baby, were also murdered under similar witchcraft suspicions. In total, nine people have now lost their lives in Chhattisgarh within just one week due to these unfounded allegations. Local authorities are calling for heightened awareness and education to combat the superstitions that lead to such tragic outcomes, urging the community to seek out rational explanations and legal assistance rather than resorting to violence.

As the investigation unfolds, the community remains in shock, grappling with the implications of these events and the urgent need for change to prevent further tragedies.
