Mumbai : Stones were pelted at police and BMC officials during an anti-encroachment drive in Powai area of Mumbai. Two cases were filed with the police station in this connection. The mob also allegedly attacked the woman's house there, in which a three-year-old girl was injured. A case has been registered in this regard, the officer added. More than 50 people have been arrested in the case so far. Notices have also been issued to 15 women.

A notice was issued on June 3 regarding the removal of encroachments in the Jai Bhim Nagar area of Powai by the S Division Office of the Municipal Corporation. Accordingly, the municipal officials and staff reached the place at 1 pm on June 6. For this, the police had also been provided with necessary security. However, the locals started pelting stones at the police. Police tried to pacify the crowd. However, the police had to resort to mild lathicharge as the people continued to pelt stones.

The video of the incident had gone viral on social media. After the incident, heavy police force was deployed in the area. The Powai police also arrested more than 50 people for obstructing government work against the concerned. Besides, 15 women have also been served notices under the CrPC.

The mob also pelted stones at the house of a woman, Asha Choure, alleging that she had entered into an understanding with a builder in the area. His three-year-old daughter was injured in the incident. The police have registered a case against 28 persons. The accused attacked the woman's house with stones and sticks and it was seized, the officer said.
