Thane: The Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) has decided to install tyre killers on roads in the city to prevent traffic from the opposite direction. The 'tyre killers' will be installed on a trial basis to avoid accidents and traffic jams, Thane Municipal Commissioner Saurabh Rao said. He also clarified that before installing these tyre killers, detailed information will be given in that area.
To control the traffic congestion on Ghodbunder Road and internal roads, a meeting was held at the civic training center of the corporation on Friday. Gill, CICU President Upkar Singh Ahuja, General Secretary Pankaj Sharma, Dr SB Pandhi, besides several others.
Driving in the opposite direction leads to accidents. Therefore, it was decided in the meeting to install 'tyre killer' on an experimental basis. Such places will be decided by the traffic police. After that, tyre killers will be installed by the municipal corporation. Before installing this tyre killer, detailed information will be given in that area. Tire killers will be installed at a distance of 100 to 200 metres. Ensure that the area is well lit at night. Also, these devices will be installed after confirming that the part is coming in the CCTV camera area. Municipal Commissioner Rao explained that this measure will prevent vehicles coming in the opposite direction. In the last two weeks, there has been considerable success in controlling traffic congestion on Ghodbunder Road.
Municipal Commissioner Saurabh Rao informed that the measures being taken to relieve traffic congestion are being reviewed on a regular basis. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Pankaj Shirsat said that various agencies have taken measures in coordination with each other as per the action plan decided in the first meeting to solve the problem of traffic congestion on Ghodbunder Road. He also discussed the current challenges and possible solutions. At the same time, the next vehicles with a weight of 12.5 tons are heavy vehicles. All vehicles are not included. Therefore, there is a misunderstanding if such cargo vehicles are seen, he explained.
Shri Shirsat said that some measures still need to be taken in the Gaimukh Ghat, Bhayander Pada to Gaimukh stretch. Vehicles weighing 150 to 200 tons pass through the Gaimukh Ghat. As a result, the road gets damaged during the rainy season. Superintendent Engineer Tambe of the Public Works Department informed that there is a need for concretization here. This route has now been transferred to Mira-Bhayander Municipal Corporation, he added. He also said that the road from Kapurbawdi-Majiwada flyover to Viviana Mall will be asphalted soon. The construction of two flyovers along the metro line has led to the narrowing of the corridors. Therefore, the metro officials have demanded to repair the service roads. Municipal Engineer traffic through said that more caution needs to be taken while carrying heavy traffic through the service road. Municipal Commissioner Saurabh Rao has directed that the service road should be empowered first to solve this problem.
