India’s Head Coach Application : The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recently closed the application window for the head coach position of the Indian national team. With over 3,000 applications received, speculation suggests that former cricketer Gautam Gambhir is a front-runner, despite not officially submitting his candidacy. Notably, fake applications were also made under the names of prominent figures like Narendra Modi, Sachin Tendulkar, and Amit Shah.

Numerous individuals submitted fraudulent applications using famous names for the Team India head coach role, with notable fake submissions under the identities of Tendulkar, Dhoni, Harbhajan Singh, Virender Sehwag, Modi, and Shah. The BCCI faced an influx of such false entries following the call for applications on Google Forms starting on May 13. An official from the BCCI noted a similar occurrence in the previous year and expressed the challenges posed by the current situation.

Looking ahead, the tenure of the current head coach Rahul Dravid is set to conclude after the T20 World Cup in 2024, prompting the BCCI to seek a replacement. The organization has established stringent criteria for potential candidates, requiring a minimum of 30 Tests or 50 ODIs as a player or two years of head coaching experience with a Test-playing country.

Additionally, candidates must have coached an Associate Member team, IPL team, or hold a Level-3 Coaching Certificate from the BCCI, with an age limit of under 60 years.
