Kolkata: The rape and murder of a Kolkata resident doctor at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital has shook the country. Doctors across the country took to the streets in protest against the incident. The Maharashtra Association of Resident Doctors (MARD) has called for a state-wide strike. The doctors have demanded strict action against the accused. The government has handed over the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). As the investigation is progressing new information is coming out.

The Kolkata Police have arrested the accused Sanjay Roy on the basis of CCTV footage from the hospital and some other evidence. Meanwhile, a doctor has claimed that more than one accused are involved in this rape and murder case. Dr Suvarna Goswami, general secretary of the All India Government Doctors' Association, claimed that he had read the post-mortem report of the case. The post-mortem report revealed 151 milligrams of semen in her private parts, Goswami said. Goswami also claimed that the girl might have been raped by more than one person.
This is a rape case. Dr. Suvarna Goswami
"The post-mortem report indicates that more than one person may have been involved in the crime. There were multiple injuries on the girl's body. The wounds are deep. It's certainly not one man's job given the amount of power he has to attack her. The family members of the girl suspect her role in the crime. According to the Kolkata Police, there was only one accused involved in the case. However, the post-mortem report shows that the police investigation is not enough. "

While the protesting doctors have raised doubts over the role of the police, the investigation into the rape and murder case has also come under suspicion. The protesting doctors have claimed that even after the rape and murder case, the seminar hall (where the incident took place) was kept open. The hotel was open for two days. After enquiring with the police, he said that the repair work was being carried out here. The room was open. However, the doctors said that the repair work was to be done in the room next to the seminar hall and not in the seminar hall. Also, there were no CCTV cameras in the room. Doctors say this is negligence.
