Mumbai : The number of passengers traveling without tickets on Konkan Railway has been increasing, prompting the Konkan Railway Administration to launch a ticket checking campaign in recent months. In April 2024, an average of 504 ticketless passengers were apprehended daily, resulting in the collection of approximately Rs.9 lakh in fines.
The Konkan region attracts a significant number of vacationers during the summer months, with a notable influx of travelers from Konkan to Mumbai. However, reports indicate a concerning trend of passengers journeying without valid tickets, causing inconvenience to paying customers. In April, a total of 15,129 ticketless passengers were identified during the ticket checking campaign, leading to punitive measures and the recovery of a total fine amounting to Rs 2,69,85,256.
Konkan Railway officials noted that this represented the highest fine ever imposed on unauthorized passengers along the Konkan Railway route. Moving forward, an enhanced ticket checking campaign will be rolled out across the entirety of the railway network. Passengers are urged to ensure they travel with valid tickets to avoid disruptions.
