A 63 percent voter turnout was recorded in the fourth phase of Lok Sabha elections, covering 96 constituencies across 10 states and Union Territories. West Bengal had the highest turnout at 75.94 percent. Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir saw a voting percentage of 36.58, the highest in decades since the revocation of Article 370. The Election Commission announced a provisional 62.84 percent voter turnout by 8:00 pm, despite polling closing at 6:00 pm. Notable turnouts included Andhra Pradesh at 68.12 percent, Bihar at 55.90 percent, and Madhya Pradesh at 68.63 percent.
With polling completed in 23 states/UTs and 379 constituencies, General Elections 2024 has surpassed the halfway mark. In Andhra Pradesh, there were allegations of violence between TDP and YSRCP, particularly in Palnadu, Kadapa, and Annamayya districts. Violence incidents were reported in West Bengal, where TMC and BJP clashed in Birbhum and Bardhaman-Durgapur Lok Sabha seats.
The EC noted around 1,700 complaints of EVM malfunction and obstruction of agents entering booths, with security personnel injured in attacks on BJP leader Dilip Ghosh in Bardhaman. In Uttar Pradesh, instances of poll boycotts were reported in some villages of Shahj, adding to the election turmoil.
