Kannur's beloved medical practitioner, Dr. Rairu Gopal, affectionately known as the 'two rupee doctor' or the 'people's doctor,' has recently announced his retirement due to declining health. A few days ago, a hand written message was affixed to his gate, informing patients of his decision to cease medical practice. As news spread of his retirement, accolades poured in from the community for his decades of dedicated service at a nominal fee.
The message on the board outside his residence in Manikkakkavu, near Kannur, was captured in a photo that quickly went viral on social media, sparking further admiration for Dr. Gopal. The esteemed doctor, who had long charged only two rupees for his services, has been lauded by many, including PWD Minister PA Muhammad Riyas, who praised his selfless contributions and described him as a paragon of virtue and a living legend in the medical field. Dr. Gopal's routine of early morning consultations with a steady stream of patients has endeared him to the people of Kannur for over five decades.
