The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has made major changes in the National Highway Fee Rules. The new rules will be known as the National Highway (Amendment) Rules, 2024. Under this rule, a zero-tariff policy has been implemented for the first 20 km on national highways.

Earlier in July, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways had announced the implementation of toll collection system as per Global Navigation System (GNSS) on a pilot basis along with FASTag. According to the new rules, if you want to travel free up to 20 kilometers, then you have to use GNSS.

National Highways, permanent bridges, bypass roads, tunnel roads. The first 20 km of the route will be free of charge. Vehicles with national permits will not be able to take advantage of these rules.

If the vehicle travels more than 20 km, the vehicle owner will be charged as per the next 20 km. These changes are aimed at reducing the burden of drivers for close travel. Appropriate charges will be levied for long distance travel.
