The Election Commission team in Panvel assisted 52 disabled and elderly voters in exercising their voting rights from their homes. These voters are part of the Panvel Assembly Constituency in the Maval Lok Sabha Constituency, which has over 25 lakh voters. Among them, there are 23,738 voters under 85 years old. However, in Panvel Assembly Constituency, there are more than 4,000 voters above 85 years old and with disabilities.
Despite the Election Commission's initiative to facilitate home voting for these individuals, only 52 out of the 4,000 eligible voters participated. Assistant Election Commissioner Rahul Mundke coordinated the efforts in April to ensure these voters could cast their votes. A total of 41 voters over 85 years old and 16 disabled voters applied to vote from home.
Following their requests, the Election Commission team visited these voters between May 3 and 9 to deliver and collect their ballots. In the end, 40 elderly and 12 disabled voters successfully voted from their homes. Notably, there are 103 voters aged 110 in Panvel Assembly Constituency. The Election Commission's directive allowed for 57 voters to apply for home voting, leading to election department representatives visiting their homes for the voting process.
In cases where voters were not present at home, additional visits were made before May 10. The 52 voters who participated in home voting will not participate in the May 13 election, as confirmed by Rahul Mundke, Assistant Election Returning Officer for Maval Lok Sabha Constituency.
