Pune : Two individuals have been apprehended by Loni Kalbhor Police for snatching a gold necklace from an elderly woman under the guise of needing water. The incident occurred in front of a welding shop in Vadki Nala around 3:30 pm on Tuesday (14th). Bhamabai Shivram Bhosale (85 years old, residing in Vadki Nala, Vadki) lodged a complaint at Loni Kalbhor Police Station.
The suspects, Akshay Somnath Chaudhary (22 years old, from Paradise Society, Chikhli, Pimpri Chinchwad) and Mahadev Prakash Tirthe (21 years old, from Chintamani Chowk, Valhekarwadi, Pimpri Chinchwad), were charged and detained under IPC 392, 34. The victim's grandson, Vikas, owns a welding shop named Kanifnath Fabrication in Vadaki Nala.
The elderly woman was seated in front of the shop that afternoon when two individuals arrived on a motorcycle. Exploiting the absence of others in the shop and the victim's vulnerability, the culprits requested water to drink. On the pretext of drinking water, they forcibly snatched a 10-gram gold necklace valued at 45 thousand rupees from the victim's neck and fled. Following the victim's report to the Loni Kalbhor police, the perpetrators were located and apprehended.
Sub-Inspector Ghodke is leading the ongoing investigation. In a separate incident, a mobile thief known as Gajaad was arrested by Hadapsar police for stealing a young man's phone after pushing him under the guise of needing to make a phone call. The theft occurred on Handewadi Road around 4:30 am on Tuesday (13th). Akash Maruti Popele (22 years old, residing in Satavnagar, Handewadi) filed a complaint at Hadapsar police station, leading to the arrest of Om Kalenath Bhosle (19 years old, from Kalepadal). An accomplice has also been implicated in the case.
