Remal's havoc : Many houses collapsed in Northeast, 36 dead so far, 10 people missing.
Cyclone Ramal is weakening in the Northeast, but heavy rains and landslides continue to impact northeastern states. Currently, 36 people have died, and over 10 are missing. The disaster has severely disrupted road and rail connectivity in the affected areas, causing significant upheaval in daily life. Mizoram has been hit the hardest, with 29 fatalities, including those from a mine collapse in Aizawl district.
Nagaland reported four deaths, Assam three, and Meghalaya two. Landslides, fallen trees, and interruptions in essential services such as power and internet have been a result of incessant rains and strong winds. Over the past 24 hours, Tripura experienced heavy rainfall with winds reaching 50 to 60 km/h, resulting in damage to around 470 houses and displacement of 750 individuals.
Affected individuals have sought refuge in 15 relief camps across different districts. Tripura's Unakoti district received the highest rainfall at 252.4 mm, contributing to an average of 215.5 mm of rainfall in the region over the past day, as reported by Tripura Food and Civil Supplies Minister Sushanta Chowdhury in Agartala.
