Pune: Rich Dagadusheth Halwai Ganapati was greeted with the playing of the Keralite instrument 'Chenda Melam'. Chenda malam is widely used in Tulunadu in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.


Chenda is a cylindrical percussion instrument native to the state of Kerala. It is known as Chende in Tulunadu (Coastal Karnataka). In Kerala and Tulunadu, this instrument is also known as an integral part of their culture. This instrument has been most popular in Kerala for more than three hundred years. Punekars were able to enjoy watching this instrument and listening to its playing during this year's Ganeshotsav.
