Pune : The Southwest Monsoon rains, which arrived early in the state, have weakened from the Konkan coast to Vidarbha. These rains have brought an increase in temperature, with the maximum temperature rising by three to four degrees to reach 35 to 40 degrees Celsius. The monsoon showers reached Jalgaon, Amravati, and Chandrapur on Monday (June 10) and have stalled there, according to the Meteorological Department.

The progress of the monsoon has halted as the monsoon winds have weakened, reducing the moisture content in the air and causing the rains to dissipate from the Konkan coast to Vidarbha. Although the monsoon has covered most parts of the state, localized heating is leading to the condensation of moisture in the air into clouds, resulting in light to moderate rainfall in isolated areas accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds.

Statistics show that the state has experienced '20 percent more rainfall' than usual, with the country typically receiving an average of 61.1 mm of rain from June 1 to June 15. However, only 52.1 mm of rain has fallen this year. By June 15, the country has recorded 16 percent less rainfall than usual, with Maharashtra experiencing an average of 76.2 mm of rainfall during this period, while the actual rainfall has been 91.7 mm, representing a 20 percent surplus.

Madhya Maharashtra has received above-average rainfall, while Ratnagiri received 28 percent less rain than usual, Dharashiv 26 percent less, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar 40 percent less, Chandrapur 44 percent less, Gadchiroli 30 percent less, and Gondia 57 percent less.

Retired Meteorological Department scientist Dr. Anupam Kashyapi noted that apart from a few places in Kolhapur, Sangli, and Beed districts, the state experienced limited rainfall on Sunday. The Southwest Monsoon branch over the Arabian Sea is expected to strengthen in the next three to four days, while the branches in the Bay of Bengal will become more active this week and progress further.

Dr. Anupam Kashyapi, a retired scientist from the Meteorological Department, predicts that after June 20, monsoon rains will intensify and spread across the rest of the country. Regarding high temperatures in Chandrapur: - The maximum temperature has risen by three to four degrees Celsius due to the monsoon rains, with Chandrapur recording 41.2 degrees Celsius on Sunday.

In Vidarbha, temperatures ranged between 36 and 40 degrees, with Nagpur recording 39.9 degrees Celsius, Bhandara 40.4 degrees Celsius, and Wardhya 40.0 degrees Celsius. - In Marathwada, the average maximum temperature ranged between 33 and 37 degrees, with Aurangabad at 34.3 degrees and Nanded at 36.8 degrees. - In Madhya Maharashtra, Nagar recorded 33.0 degrees, Nashik 33.8 degrees, Pune 33.8 degrees, and Solapur 35.0 degrees.
