Bengaluru: Kannada actor Darshan Thoogudeepa, who is currently in judicial custody in connection with the Renukaswamy murder case, has been given special treatment. Nine jail officials, including Seshumurthy and jail superintendent Mallikarjuna Swamy, have been suspended.
The action was taken after pictures of Darshan holding a coffee mug and smoking inside the central prison at Parappana Agrahara in the city were circulated on social media. The photograph shows Darshan sitting comfortably on the greenery of the jail premises along with three others, including two notorious criminals. After the photos were circulated, the Karnataka government was heavily criticised and the administration of the jail was questioned.
Home Minister of Karnataka. Following this, nine officials were suspended. The seven officials were immediately suspended, after they visited the jail and collected more information.
Superintendent Seshamurthy and Superintendent Mallikarjuna Swamy have been suspended. The Home Minister said it was his fault. It will also be investigated who supplied cigarettes, tea and chairs to the actor, he said.
