Pune State Excise Department registered offenses against 32 licensees following the recent Kalyani Nagar Accident. These actions were part of a strike campaign conducted by 14 teams over three days. Under the Pune Collector's directive, transactions for these licenses were immediately halted, and all licenses were sealed. The crackdown resulted in the closure of 10 rooftop licenses, around 16 pubs, and 6 other bars. This initiative, known as the Dhadak campaign, is being carried out in the Pune district under the supervision of the Collector, Commissioner of State Excise Department, and Deputy Commissioner.
The State Excise Department is proactive in addressing license misuse, as demonstrated by past actions such as the recent closure of Cozy Bar. Notably, the Department had previously recorded a violation at Cozy Bar two months ago. In the fiscal year 2023-2024, the State Excise Department in Pune took action against 297 licenses for various infractions, resulting in a fine collection of Rs 1.12 crore.
Additionally, 17 licenses were suspended, and 2 were permanently revoked. Since April 2024, 54 licenses have faced offenses, leading to a fine collection of Rs 5 lakh and the sealing of 32 licenses. The State Excise Department is vigilant in enforcing licensing regulations, particularly concerning the sale of alcohol to minors and unauthorized locations like rooftops.
