Balasore : India on Wednesday conducted a successful flight test of the Supersonic Missile-Assested Release of Torpedo(SMART) anti-submarine warfare system from an is let off Odisha's seacoast, a defense officer said. The system was launched from a ground mobile launcher around 8:30 am. The defense officer said that the test also tested several parameters like harmony separation, speed control and the results were encouraging.
'Smart' is a sophisticated missile-grounded light torpedo delivery system, designed and developed by the Defense Research and Development Organization(DRDO). So that the Indian Navy 'santi-submarine warfare capability will expand beyond the traditional range of feather light torpedoes, defense officers said.
Defense Minister Rajnath Singh praised DRDO for the successful flight test of' Smart'. "The development of the system will further enhance the strength of the Navy," he said. Defense Research and Development Secretary and DRDO Chairman Dr. Sameer V. Kamat also appreciated the cooperative work of the entire Smart Team.
