Arvind Kejriwal, the Chief Minister of Delhi, was recently arrested by the ED in connection with an alleged liquor scam. The Supreme Court granted him interim bail until June 1 due to the Lok Sabha elections, providing temporary relief. However, he was directed to surrender again on June 2. As the deadline approached, a petition was filed in the Supreme Court on Kejriwal's behalf to extend the interim bail.
The Court, represented by Justice JK Maheshwari, declined to hear the plea for a seven-day extension, suggesting approaching the Chief Justice. Abhishek Manu Singhvi, representing Kejriwal, requested the extension on medical grounds, but the Court's refusal meant Kejriwal would need to surrender on June 2.
In the petition for bail extension, Kejriwal cited medical reasons for the request, mentioning a 7 kg weight loss and doctor-ordered tests. Allegations of malpractice in Delhi's liquor policy implicated Kejriwal and ED's arrest. It was also alleged that Manish Sisodia took money for liquor licenses and is currently in jail.
Further more, accusations linked the funds from Delhi's liquor policy to the Goa assembly elections, resulting in action against Kejriwal.
