In Pune, a teenager involved in a fatal car accident was granted bail by the Juvenile Justice Board with the condition of writing a 300-word essay. However, the police intend to request permission from a higher court to try him as an adult. The 17-year-old, allegedly driving a Porsche under the influence of alcohol, collided with a motorcycle in the Kalyani Nagar area, resulting in the death of two individuals.

In response, the Juvenile Justice Board directed the teenager to familiarize himself with traffic rules and prepare a presentation for submission within 15 days. Additionally, the board mandated the youth to compose an essay on road accidents and their remedies. The teenager is also required to undergo counseling at an alcohol deaddiction center.

Despite the swift granting of bail, criticism has been directed towards the handling of the case, given the severity of the incident. The police have filed charges against the teenager under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Motor Vehicles Act. Efforts to have the juvenile tried as an adult and placed in an observation home were initially unsuccessful but will be pursued in the sessions court.

The police commissioner highlighted evidence indicating the teenager was intoxicated during the accident, including CCTV footage from a bar showing the consumption of alcohol by the juvenile. Legal actions have been taken against the teenager's father and the bar owners for their roles in the incident.

The police commissioner emphasized the professionalism displayed in handling the case, ensuring a thorough investigation and the appointment of a special counsel.
