Numerous events are occurring in our vicinity, including criminal incidents. The crime rate in the country is on the rise, contrary to decreasing. Recently, a distressing event unfolded in the Uttara Kannada region of Karnataka. A 32-year-old woman from Halmadi village in Dandeli taluka of Uttara Kannada district threw her 6-year-old differently-abled son into a pond inhabited by crocodiles.

This act followed a dispute with her husband, leading to immense tension. The couple frequently argued about the health of their disabled elder son, Vinod, who was nonverbal. The husband, Ravi Kumar, blamed his wife, Savitri, for their son's condition, even suggesting harming the children. According to the police report, the altercation between Savitri and Ravi escalated on a Saturday, resulting in Savitri throwing her son into the crocodile-infested lake.

The authorities were alerted by neighbors, initiating a search operation with the help of locals and a rescue team. Tragically, Vinod's body was recovered the following Sunday morning, displaying severe injuries, bite marks, and a missing hand. Savitri, a homemaker, and Ravi Kumar, a domestic helper, found themselves in court as a result of this devastating incident.

Ravi Kumar was remanded to judicial custody for 14 days. Family tensions can lead individuals to make regrettable choices in moments of anger, often resulting in the loss of innocent lives. The case of Ravi and Savitri underscores this unfortunate reality.
