The paralympics : Sheetal Devi sets new Paralympic record in archery

Paris Paralympics: India's armless archer breaks world record :
The Paralympic Games have begun in Paris. On the first day of the Games, India's para-badminton players, taekwondo and archers took the field. India's overall performance in the Paralympics has been good. Indian boxers and boxers have made it to the next round. Indian para-athlete Sheetal Devi created history on Thursday.

Handless archer Sheetal Devi put up a brilliant show in the qualification round of the women's individual compound archery event, shooting 703 out of 720 to book a place in the quarter-finals. She finished second in the competition with 703 points. Sheetal not only reached the next round but also broke the world record. Sheetal, however, fell short of setting a new world record by just one point.


The 17-year-old broke Great Britain's Phoebe Peterson's world record of 698 points in the ranking round. However, Turkey's Oznur Girdi set a new world record with 704 points and reached the Round of 16 by finishing on top. She was placed second in the ranking. Sheetal will now play her quarter-final match on August 31 at 9 pm. India had also participated in the tournament. She scored 682 in the qualifying round. She finished in 9th place. On August 30, Sarita will play to reach the pre-quarterfinals.
