At the State Bank of India (SBI) Chipitola branch in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, it was discovered that 11 counterfeit two-thousand-rupee notes were present in the currency chest. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) uncovered this issue when the fake notes were sent to them. Consequently, the RBI Claim Manager has initiated legal proceedings against the bank officials and employees involved. During the transfer of the currency chest from SBI Chipitola to the RBI in February 2024, counterfeit notes amounting to 22,000 rupees were identified.

The RBI's Claim Section Manager, IPS Gehlot, notified the Police Commissioner about this on May 20. Subsequently, a case was registered in Rakabganj. Furthermore, in May 2023, a bullion trader in Kamala Nagar deposited 2.85 crore rupees in the SBI Chipitola Bank. During this transaction, 13 counterfeit two-thousand-rupee notes were discovered.

The trader's son was apprehended. Additionally, in December 2023, the Sambhal police apprehended a gang involved in producing fake 500-rupee notes amounting to 1.37 lakh rupees. Seven individuals were arrested. Investigations revealed that this gang had ties to Agra, Firozabad, and Mainpuri and operated a counterfeit note printing operation using a printer.
