The Democracy News : In New Delhi, a senior official at the US Consulate in India mentioned that the US granted a record 140,000 student visas last year, with expectations of a rise in applications from Indian students this year. The US Mission in India observed the eighth annual Student Visa Day nationwide on Thursday.

Consular officers from New Delhi, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, and Mumbai conducted interviews with student visa applicants. A substantial number of Indian students pursue studies in American universities, as evidenced by the 140,000 student visas issued by the US Consulate in India last year, surpassing other countries.

Acting Consul General Syed Mujtaba Andrabi at the US Embassy estimated around 4,000 student interviews to take place during the day, emphasizing that student visas are a top priority. Educational exchange between the two nations remains a key focus for the current administration and the US Ambassador Eric Garcetti highlighted the significance of granting student visas, stating they are a high priority due to the long-term benefits to students.
